— How high will we climb? Well, according to meteorologist Mike Maze, temperatures are going to reach the mid 80s Friday!

But before we get to that, let’s look at our evening and overnight forecast. The warmth is expected to persist throughout the nighttime hours as we’ll see temperatures hover in the mid 60s before they begin to climb again in the morning.

Maze says the high Friday will be 84 degrees as central North Carolina will look to dodge the severe weather happening to our southeast.

“Our thinking is, this [system] will continue to weaken as it does approach, even though it may get dangerously close,” Maze said.

Much of the state is expected to be under a Level 1 risk for severe weather in the afternoon when thunderstorms and rain are likely, but those aren’t likely to last. There’s a lot to break down with this system, and you can read more about it, here.

Maze says some of the severe weather may spill over into the sandhills area, but it’s unlikely to be too extreme.

Over the weekend, rain chances will start to increase, with our best chance coming on Sunday, but the weekend shouldn’t be a washout. Temperatures will be in the mid to upper 70s for both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday will be cloudy but dry, and there is a 40% chance for rain Sunday. Maze says Saturday’s humidity won’t be as high, so it’ll be a good day to be outdoors.

Next 3 days

The best chance for showers and storms on Sunday will be late afternoon and in the evening.

By Monday, temperatures will be slightly cooler, in the mid 60s.

Maze said the warmth over the next four days will be comparable to our normal temperatures for the end of May.

7-day forecast

It may appear that springtime warmth is here to stay, but WRAL meteorologists recommend waiting to plant delicate flowers and other seasonal additions to your garden. The average final spring freeze usually occurs between April 1-10 in the Triangle. The average date of the last hard freeze is anywhere from March 21-31.

With springtime comes an increase in pollen and allergies, and our chances of feeling that impact will increase as the week goes on.
